BancaStato has connected Sygnum’s regulated digital asset services to its Avaloq core banking and digital banking environment, enabling trading in Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC) and Solana (SOL).

The cantonal bank’s clients can buy, hold and sell cryptocurrencies simply and seamlessly, directly from the bank’s existing e-banking applications.

Clients’ digital assets are held in Sygnum’s institutional-grade custody solution.

BancaStato, a leading Swiss bank in the Ticino region, joins Zug Cantonal Bank and more than 25 other banks and international financial institutions on Sygnum’s B2B platform.

The Sygnum Group, an international banking group specialising in digital assets, announced today that BancaStato is joining its B2B banking platform. The bank has connected Sygnum’s API to its Avaloq core banking system, enabling regulated cryptocurrency trading directly within its e-banking channels. It is also using Sygnum’s B2B API without a separate Order Management System (OMS), reducing complexity and operational risk while simplifying the development of new features. BancaStato now joins more than 25 other banks and international financial institutions on Sygnum’s B2B platform.

The cantonal bank, founded in 1915, uses the Avaloq platform for its core banking system and digital banking channels under a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model. Through its integration with Sygnum’s B2B platform, the bank offers clients regulated access to a range of cryptocurrencies directly from its existing interface.

BancaStato clients will be able to buy, hold and sell Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC) and Solana (SOL). Market orders can be placed by quantity or by USD value via e-banking and mobile applications.

Transactions are executed via Sygnum’s B2B API, which enables buying or selling directly from Avaloq systems, leveraging existing secure infrastructure. Because this streamlined setup does not require a separate Order Management System (OMS), costs and complexity are reduced, and trading functionalities can be flexibly adapted to risk management requirements.

BancaStato clients’ assets are held in Sygnum’s institutional-grade, multilayer custody solution, which relies on hardware and software controls, strict governance processes and independent external audits. All client assets are held off-balance sheet, in full regulatory compliance, providing clients with additional protection in the event of bankruptcy.

“We are proud to welcome BancaStato to our fast-growing B2B network, which underscores the strong demand for Sygnum’s regulated digital asset services — API-driven and integrated directly into existing core banking systems,” says Fritz Jost, Chief B2B Officer at Sygnum. “By becoming the first bank in Avaloq’s SaaS environment to enable its clients to buy, hold and sell cryptocurrencies via API with Sygnum, directly from its e-banking platforms, BancaStato is taking an important step in the maturity and scalability of regulated digital asset infrastructure.”

Dr Curzio De Gottardi, BancaStato Head of the Products and Services Division and Vice-Chairman of the Executive Board, says: “Our seamless integration of traditional assets, investment solutions — and now digital assets — further strengthens our group’s forward-looking offering. We are proud to be partnering with Sygnum Bank on this strategic initiative. We look forward to leveraging Sygnum’s crypto-native banking expertise and secure infrastructure.”

Christian Haux, Managing Director Switzerland and Liechtenstein at Avaloq, says: “We congratulate BancaStato on the launch of this new digital asset service with Sygnum, fully integrated into its Avaloq SaaS environment. This project shows how robust integration enables banks to respond more quickly to new investor expectations while keeping their services on a unified platform. For BancaStato clients, this new service is integrated into web banking and mobile banking, allowing them to view and manage their digital and traditional portfolios in one place. It also marks an important milestone for Switzerland as an innovation hub, where we are seeing strong momentum and a growing number of new initiatives in digital assets.”

BancaStato further expands the depth and reach of Sygnum’s B2B network in the Ticino region. Through its partner banks, Sygnum already enables more than one third of the Swiss population to hold digital assets with confidence.

On 30 June 2026, Sygnum Europe obtained a Crypto-Asset Service Provider (CASP) licence under the European Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCAR), issued by the Financial Market Authority (FMA) of Liechtenstein. This allows EU banks to draw on Sygnum’s experience to reduce risk, time to market and capital requirements when launching regulated digital asset services.
